If you are a freelancer, then you know about one of the freelance sites called Upwork. Working on Upwork becomes somewhat easy when you know your way around the platform. However, the platform need a bit of effort for you to secure your first job.
We share some tips and tricks on how to use the platform and start making money online.
Here are some of them.
1. Be professional.
A person can know if you are professional or not from observing how your profile looks like, the words you use, and how you structure and present your proposals.
Ensure that the photo you are using on the profile is professional. It is important to maintain professional standards in all your activities on the platform. Unprofessionalism may put off a potential client.
2. Avoid typos.
The words on your proposal should be grammatically correct. Typos can easily put off your potential clients. You can use a free online grammar tool like Grammarly to proofread your work.
To reduce errors, type your proposals out first on a word document and then paste them on the proposal box on Upwork. It is not recommendable to type in your proposal directly on Upwork as it will not highlight errors.
3. Create a winning proposal.
A winning proposal should showcase your previous experience related to the job, a brief intro about yourself, and how you can help the client solve their problems. Most clients will make sure you have read the entire job description by inserting or “hiding” words or phrases. Make sure you read the entire description to avoid missing these words.
4. Showcase your past work.
It is important to have an arsenal of past work or projects you have done. These can be in form of portfolios, links, or even videos you have done in the past. These links show the clients how you work. This way, you will have a better chance of getting jobs as the client will develop confidence in you after seeing your past projects.
5. Build a relationship with your clients.
A good relationship between you and your client is important as it sets the tone for how you will work together in the future. One of the ways of building your relationships is to keep your word. Ensure that you deliver to the client on time. You can also share ideas with the clients.
6. Patience
It is important to take your time on the platform. The freelance market is competitive and not everyone who joins today gets a job the next day. A lot of freelancers lack patience and end up giving up when it’s too early. It is ok to get your proposal rejected. This doesn’t mean all your other proposals will be rejected.
Patience is a very important aspect in getting jobs on Upwork.
